This blog is about the beginnings and ends of the human race - or at least, the one we know. It tries to tackle all the great unsolved questions that are "too big" and "too hard" and it tries to be deliberately controversial, to take points of view that are far from the conventional. Most of these are topics that have a scientific consensus that has intrinsically "bothered" me ever since I first heard about it and which I think either need better explanation or more careful evaluation.

I am a scientist and I propose to consider only those topics that actually have a chance of "getting up", based on the evidence. I am not interested in the many alternate theories of almost everything that fill the internet and the blogoverse - which all too often are without evidence or grossly misinterpret the evidence. Here you will only find discussions of topics that have serious scientific champions - plus a few topics of my own.

Some of the topics I propose to tackle are

• What's with the Big Bang. Why doesn't it keep happening? 
• What about Jupiter and the asteroids?
• Where did the moon come from?
• Is the earth expanding?
• What was the most important event in evolution?
• Was the earth once a frozen iceblock?
• The origins of homo sapiens - are we a species at all? 
• Are there different races of humanity? Why? Did they actually come from somewhere? 
• Are we evolving? 
• Why do we need religion? Why are there so many? 
• Are we living in a simulation? 
• If there are aliens, why aren't they here? 
• Is time travel possible? 
• What really got industrial society moving? 
• Are we really progressing, or are we heading for the abyss? 
• Is global warming all that bad?
• Does the human race have a future?

The site is very much UNDER DEVELOPMENT - even the articles that appear finished - and I expect to make significant changes to all posts with time.
